Day 31 on the Camino Frances, Lestedo to Castaneda
We picked our destination today as Castaneda, based on how far we wanted to walk, and booked a reservation at a place that looked good and not too expensive. .
The bridge below is a medieval bridge just before the town of Furelos. This village once belonged to the Hospitallers.
We walked through Palas de Rei (population 3500), where we got some breakfast, and the towns of Melide (pop 7500) and Bente , Palas de Rei refers to the town once being the base of the last Visogothic king, in the 8th century AD. We were never more than 50 yards from a scallop or yellow arrow. We got to our place for the night, not an albergue, not a hotel. I guess is was a Casa Rural, just past the town of Castenada and about a km off the Camino. Cost was 85 Eu for 2, plus dinner and a croissant to go for the next morning. We met Americans Michael and Kara, and Michael’s feet were wiped out. I hope he took a taxi the rest of the way to Santiago. At our room we figured we could get to Santiago in one hard day, or two easy days. We decided to do 2 easy days. But this day, we had walked 29 km, 18 miles. Pretty for good for us, and Ciera had blisters.
