Bike and Boat, Greek Islands, day 1, Bodrum to Kos

Kos Island: We signed up for a berth on a bike and boat trip offered by the Island Hopping tour company. We loaded our luggage on the boat in Bodrum Turkey, and headed to our first destination: the island of Kos. Our boat was a Turkish Gulet, a wooden classic yacht built in Bodrum. Our boat had a crew of about 7, including sailors and kitchen staff, and two bike guides who accompanied our bike rides at the front and rear. We had 26 bikers on board, almost all of them in their sixties and seventies. The boat also carried 26 ebikes on board, with two of the guests on pedal only bikes.

We left Bodrum and arrived in Kos after a 2 hour cruise, and unloaded our bikes and got our panniers and helmets sorted out. We did a 19km (12 miles) ride around the island, stopping to visit the ruins of the ancient hospital of the medical practitioner Hippocrates, founded around 400BC.

We had lunch at a cafe on the bike ride, and headed back to the boat, where we had dinner in the town of Kos.
