Camino Norte, day 14 and 15, Ribideo to Vilalba to Baamonde

We traveled some more to get to the start of the final 100 km section, which involved waiting for hours in Ribadeo for the one bus that went where we wanted to go. and then again in Foz for a bus that wasn’t even on the posted schedule, but which we had been told would show up. Finally, we got to Vilalba, and on our second try got a hotel.

Bus to Foz €4

bus to Vilalba €11
€60 hotel Vila do Alba
€14 burgers

Next day we walked in mostly forest path or country road, toward Baamonde. We came across two old stone bridges, originally Roman in construction, rebuilt in medieval times.

We got to Baamonde at 4, tired and dry, having walked 22 km, 13.7 mi. We had a hamburger and a Nestea in the meager downtown, and got a taxi the last 4 km to our hotel, a casa rural named Arrebol. Once a farmhouse, it wouldn’t be recognized by the farmers now. It was recently refurbished as a nice casa rural. By definition, a casa rural is a house in the countryside, so there is no nearby town, so they genrally have a restaurant for breakfast and dinner. The Arrebol was close to the Camino by a few country roads. The Arrebol is run by Lola Navarro, who had been a chef for many years in Madrid, and now cooked for guests at the casa rural. The totel part is in the white building below, and restaurant is the building on the right. Lola is in the picture below.
