Bike and Boat, Greek Islands, Day 4, Patmos

We left Kalymnos at 6:30 AM, partly sleeping through the journey to Patmos, our next destination. We arrived in Patmos 10AM and immediately got the bikes off the boat and headed out. We went through residential streets to a ridge with 3 traditional windmills, then continued on to a monastery / castle.

The castle was the Monastery of St. John the Theologian, a disciple of Jesus. The monastery was built in 1088 in the form of a defensive castle to fend off pirates and Seljuk Turks. John was in exile on Patmos, and lived in a cave on the site of the present monastery. He wrote the Revelations book of the Bible while living in the cave.

From the monastery we went to a nearby beach and got some food and enjoyed the water.
